OH-OH, IT'S A 2-AND-OH BROTHER!

Ward Kurenoff, Mr. Perfect so far in his CFL picks, shows off the Grey Cup,
which is presently possessed by the B.C. Lions.

Ward Kurenoff, a.k.a. younger bother -- he who puts the I in sibling rivalry -- was oh-so quick to point out Friday night that the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and B.C. Lions, respective victors in their CFL clashes, were his pigskin picks.
He said Bucky would get lucky and the Blue Bombers certainly did. The Winnipeggers regained some lost swagger and put a dagger in the Argos with a 44-32 beat-down right in Hogtown, where the Maple Leafs, Raptors, FC Toronto and Blue Jays know all about losing, too.

Then, minus the services of MVP QB Travis Lulay and six other star starters, the Lions scored 20 unanswered points late in the fourth quarter thanks to a (Mike) Reilly big show at BC Place Stadium to freeze the Edmonton Eskimos 39-19 and clinch first place in the West Division. Yep, Ward picked that, too.
So there's two games on the CFL schedule today with the hot-and-cold Montreal Alouettes playing his rock-n-roll Roughriders in Saskatchewan (12:30 p.m., TSN, pre-game show and watermelon fitting starts 30 minutes earlier) and the sluggish Hamilton Tiger-Cats moooove into Cowtown to face the Calgary Stampeders (4 p.m., TSN) at McMahon Stadium.

Ward picked Saskatchewan and Calgary. If he gets those two right, it's going to be one tough week listening to Mr. Perfect!
And, by the way, when the NHL gets back to playing on ice instead of the board room, Ward will be trying to defend his hockey pool title. Yes, he won last year's Wrecking Crew hockey pool on the final week beating the nicest guy in the world (smile, blush, hi!) in the process.
Yep, have a great weekend.

READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL FORECASTS?

Rex Ryan stars in That's My Boy, and worships the Patriots.
Ryan's Jets play in New England this Sunday!

You know things are messed up when Honey Boo Boo is being asked for political input – she’s supporting “Marack Obama” by the way – Lady Gaga strips down to her birthday suit to encourage people to love their bodies just the way they are –  like hers with tattooes, enhancements and fake hair, she wasn't born that way – and October is National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Month, because we all know those hitting the books without mom and dad’s nagging curfew in their Jerry Springer-like party dorms tend to forget about guzzling from the bottle.
I started this wonderful Week 7 by saying the 49ers would beat the Seahawks in a defensive battle and most readers thought I was going crazy faster than you can say 13-6 San Fran. Cue up the Mac Davis It’s Hard To Be Humble soundtrack.
So, if you want to make some easy money this weekend, here’s the rest of my picks:

Sunday morning

Tennessee Titans at Buffalo Bills

The lowdown: The Titans are playing this season like they’re afraid, very afraid, to get grass stains on their uniforms. Rumour has it that Justin Bieber got sick on stage last week after watching them play and that the Titans are asking their shrinking fan base for autographs. Ooops, my bad, it was actually A-Rod who was doing that in the American League Championship Series. What, too soon?
Gordo’s Great Guess: Thrills for Bills on Sunday. There will be no Titan risin’ against the home-field Bison. Feel free to pen your own Buffalo rap if you don't like this crap!

Cleveland at Indianapolis

The lowdown: The Browns and Colts. Sounds like a horse racing documentary, not a NFL matchup. Most of the pigskin experts are picking the Colts because, when asked during practice what was on their minds this week, Cleveland’s pop-gun offence said they’re all wondering when the new flavour of Windex was coming out.
Gordo’s Great Guess: Colts, but only because somebody has to win this perfect-time-for-a-nap showdown.

Green Bay at St. Louis

The lowdown: The Packers are getting their stuff together and The Rams aren’t. You knew it was going to be a long season in St. Louis when rookies admitted they wanted to be Jets when they grow up.
Gordo’s Great Guess: Pick the pigskin Packers to pick poor Rams apart. Game might be decided by halftime. Least St. Louis can cheer for the Cards and their aces in the World Series and forget about this season’s jokers in the NFL! Just saying.

Arizona at Minnesota

The lowdown: The Viagra-like Vikings appear to be up for this weekend after performance anxiety last weekend when they lost to RG3’s Redskins in Washington. Arizona also came up limp last weekend at home, losing to Buffalo. The experts say the skinny is to pick Minny.
Gordo’s Great Guess: The Vikings will get their ship together at home and sail past the Cardinals. It will be close though.

Washington at New York Giants

The lowdown: Expect the Giants to treat the Redskins like piƱatas this weekend. Young fashionable Redskins happy their coaches treat them like men and let them wear earrings to post-game press conferences. Don’t expect to see too much of RG3 this weekend because the Giants’ offence will have the ball most of the day.
Gordo’s Great Guess: Too easy. Giant blowout in Big Apple. Even Honey Boo Boo would get this one right (with some help on pronouncing New York and Giants.)

New Orleans at Tampa Bay

The lowdown: In a normal season, you’d pick the Saints in a heartbeat.  But this ain’t a normal year – just ask Hulk Hogan. On second thought, don’t!
The Bucs suck, but they are at home and you can’t lose them all, can you? (Yankee fans don’t have to answer this right now!)  Where do you go in Tampa in case of a tornado? The Bucs’ end zone cuz they never get a touch-down there!
Gordo’s Great Guess: I’m picking the Saints because even with the Bounty Gate fallout hurting their season, they have to be better than the Bucs who, if you stand close enough to their weekly (weakly?) game plan you can hear the ocean.

Dallas at Carolina

Lowdown: Remember the old jokes about your Panthers on fire? Pith your Panthers? Well, my brother (wink, wink) loves those jokes for his picks. It’s funny how all the experts favour Dallas this week even though the Cowboys have fallen out of the saddle more times in public than Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Gordo’s Great Guess: Even though Tony Romo isn’t handy on a phone – he can’t find the receiver – the Cowboys’ quarterback will generate enough offence and points to beat the Panthers. Still, a little gun shy on this one because the Cowboys are like possums: Both play dead at home and often get killed on the road. Just saying.

Baltimore at Houston

Lowdown: The Texans lost their first game at home last weekend to Green Bay. Baltimore lost Ray Lewis and Lardius Webb and maybe Ed Reed to serious injuries. One of the reason the Ravens don’t have a great website is they can’t string three Ws (www) together and they won’t win this weekend either.
Gordo’s Great Guess: Well butter my biscuit -- Texans, easy.

Sunday afternoon

Jacksonville at Oakland

Lowdown: There hasn’t been much love shown to Raider Nation this season. But this weekend will be different because the Jaguars, who have played like burgundy AMC Eagles, roll into Gangland, Calif.
Gordo’s Great Guess: Both of the teams could count to 10 by going 0-1, 0-2, 0-3, etc., but the Raiders will prevail. And those wild freaky people in the killer Raider garb? Can you say day parole, boys and girls?

New York Jets at New England

Lowdown: My wife LOVES Jets’ quarterback Mark Sanchez. She says I should be a lot more like “Marky Mark.” Which is kind of interesting, because I’m not an all-star quarterback,  I can’t win a Super Bowl and I don’t have a chance to beat Tom Brady’s team in New England. Hmmm, separated at birth perhaps?
How bad is it for the Jets this season? Rex Ryan accepted a role in Adam Sandler’s movie That’s My Boy where he fawns over coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady of the Patriots.
Gordo’s Great Guess: Patriots to pummel Jets. Tim Tebow will be forced to replace Sanchez. And he, like I, will sit and watch the second half. See, honey, I am JUST LIKE “Marky, Mark.”

For a few extra laughs see the following link:

Sunday night

Pittsburgh at Cincinnati

Lowdown: Here’s a suggestion. Watch the Amazing Race, do laundry, cuddle, go out for dinner, tell Marky, Mark jokes. Then check the score at halftime and see if the Bengals are within 30 points of the Steelers.
Gordo’s Great Guess: Steelers in a massive blowout. Bengal-bashing beatdown baby. Discuss how this one-sided yawner is just like the Jets' game.

Monday night

Detroit at Chicago

Lowdown: Da Bears at home on Da Monday Nighter with Ditka on Da Tube commenting on two teams with sputtering offences and Chicago’s polarizing me-first quarterback Jay Cutler, who will play A-Rod in a movie when career is done. Watch for cameo tweets by Khalif Mitchell of the B.C. Lions.
Gordo’s Great Guess: Da Bears in Da Blowout. Dat’s it!

WARDO WEIGHS IN WITH CFL PICKS

By WARD KURENOFF
Youngest, smartest coolest brother

While my older brother Gord has a lengthy resume of covering major sports and headline news, this new blog of his, in which he pretends to be the Great Swami of Pigskin for the Excited States, is wide left on at least three crucial points:
1. While the youngest and best looking, I am the smartest Kurenoff in the family.
2. Last time I checked, we both had Canadian passports and paid taxes to Stephen, Christy and every other Lower Mainland mayor with his or her hand out.
3. I know everything about kicking bigger balls -- of course, we're talking the Canadian Football League here.
I've decided to add some pizzazz and intelligence to my brother's blog and inject my pigskin passion for all things CFL, and Saskatchewan Roughriders, the team that can boast of having the most loyal, vocal and colourful fans in all of Canada, watermelons be damned.
Feel free to comment, or to send money!

Winnipeg Blue Bombers
at Toronto Argonauts
4 p.m., Friday, TSN

Wardo’s Inside Scoop: Winnipeg Bad Bombers are brutal this season. The W on their helmet does not standing for winning, not even Charlie Sheen’s liberal definition of winning! Doesn’t stand for Ward either, unless these picks go sideways!
Winnipeg is eighth out of eight CFL teams. If they included high school and lingerie teams in rankings, Bombers would even be lower.
Toronto is just as bad without quarterback Ricky Ray in the lineup, but the oddsmakers still favour TO. Bucky Pierce is back for Winnipeg but how long who knows? And don’t ask him, his head is still foggy.
Wardo’s Wild Guess: Smart money says TO. My money says Winnipeg because Bucky will be lucky. Winnipeg by three.
Wardo’s Cheap-Seat Comments: The Blue Bombers are black and blue with a few concussions. Toronto is well … um … Toronto. Save three hours of your life and either nap or watch lawn bowling on Friday and pick the upset to start your weekend!

Edmonton Eskimos
at B.C. Lions
7 p.m., Friday, TSN-HD

Wardo’s Inside Scoop: Everyone thinks B.C. will win the next three regular-season games, Western Final and Grey Cup. Could happen, but Edmonton is unpredictable, especially this weekend.Hugh Charles and Fred Stamps are huge weapons. Edmonton beat B.C. on a Friday earlier this season (27-14 win on July 20 at BC Place Stadium). Edmonton even beat the Riders two out of three. Who knew?
Smart money says B.C. as if the Lions win they will lock up first place and can rest injured players until Western Final on Sunday, Nov. 18.
Wardo’s Wild Guess: If you have money to lose pick Edmonton. I don't, so I will begrudgingly pick B.C.
Wardo’s Cheap-Seat Comments: Why do all the ex-Riders star for the Eskimos? Why do they beat the Riders? Oh sorry, must focus on this game!
Travis Lulay is good. B.C. is good. Can't see them losing. Not this game. Paul McCallum needs to work out a bit. Just saying. Hope he doesn't miss a 17-yarder in this game (good thing this life-long Rider fan isn’t bitter). I hope Charles does a backflip. Awesome!

Montreal Alouettes
at Saskatchewan Roughriders
12:30 p.m., Saturday, TSN

Wardo’s Inside Scoop: Riders by 54. Nuff said. Mosaic Field is a tough place to play in as a visitor. Quarterback Anthony Calvillo is great. Montreal is good, but not as good as previous years. They have injuries. Riders are getting starters back. Darian Durant has his own cereal. Weston Dressler is money. Riders are clear favourites in my view.
Wardo’s Wild Guess: Riders win! Repeat this habit for next five games!
Wardo’s Cheap-Seat Comments: Watermelons are awesome! Saskatchewan won't lose two in a row. Bet big on Riders! Buy Rider gear! Go Green! The Riders third jersey looks awesome! Dressler for MVP!

Hamilton Tiger-Cats
at Calgary Stampeders
4 p.m., Saturday, TSN

Wardo’s Inside Scoop: Where's Andy Fantuuuuuz? Oh Henry Burris is hot and cold! Stamps’ Jon Cornish is the real deal. Stamps are very tough! Pundits say Stamps. Can't argue here.
Wardo’s Wild Guess: Stamps beat the spread. Probably by more than 14.
Wardo’s Cheap-Seat Comments: Hamilton needs Grover Covington and Danny Mac. Fantuuuuz has been absent. Oskee Wee Wee, Oskee … oh, never mind.
Stamps stomp! Horses outpace Cats. Their nine lives are over. Good night Cats. Start looking at your second overall pick in next year’s Canadian draft – unless you traded it away already for a bag of balls. Burris won't be smiling by halftime.

SAN FRAN TREAT AT SEAHAWKS' EXPENSE?

With Nike saying Just Screw It and dumping shamed cyclist Lance Armstrong faster than Felix Baumgartner can fall out of a Red Bull balloon, and Apple revealing that iPhone5s are hard to make and might be tougher to obtain, it's a good thing there is some upbeat news in the Silicon Valley area.
The Seahawks are in the City by the Bay to tackle the 49ers in the lone NFL game on Thursday. Both teams are sporting 4-2 records and in a three-way tie for first in the NFC West. Arizona Cardinals also have the same record.
The Seahawks are coming off a 24-23 come-from-behind win over the Brady Bunch from New England on Sunday. San Fran got spanked 26-3 at home by the New York Giants. Both have only had three days to prepare for this tilt at Candlestick Park.
What you may not know, is that Jack and everyone else will be jumping over the Candlestick and moving to the $916-million, 68,500-seat Santa Clara Stadium for the 2014 season, proving once again that nothing says U.S./California recession like a new taxpayer-funded playground for pigskin pros.
The experts favour the 49ers to slip past the Seahawks, mostly because the Seahawks are 0-2 within their division and don't know all the words to Rice-A-Roni, The San Francisco Treat!
The 49ers real fans, those with team jerseys and a list of companies to boycott embedded in their pockets, point to all the great things about their "Super Bowl contenders" and all the bad things about the Seattle Seahawks.
Fans there seem to forget it wasn't too long ago that the difference between a U.S. dollar and the 49ers was you couldn't get four quarters out of the 49ers!
While common sense says the 49ers should prevail, have the Seahawks not surprised/impressed a few people with wins over the Packers and Patriots?
My heart says Seahawks, my wallet says 49ers.
Pick for Thursday: San Fran by a field goal.
